ScienceOn Wednesday 13th March 2019 we had a visit from the SEAI. All the children participated in lessons which explored the topic of energy and sustainability.
Junior Infants to Second Class met Guzzler the puppet who loves to waste energy. Through a series of games and activities they learned where our energy comes from, why and how we save energy. Third Class to Sixth Class explored the principals of energy, current global problems and what we can do to help as well as the science of energy and climate change. They carried our energy experiments and played the energy game. On Wednesday 14th March 2018 we had a visit from Lismore Mobile Science Workshop. Junior Infants to Second Class completed a Junior Science workshop. While Third Class to Sixth Class completed a Chemistry workshop. Everybody really enjoyed the workshop and learned a lot through the many experiments.
In the Junior Science workshop most of the experiments were done using household items. The pupils learned about electricity and acids and bases. They learned about oxygen and carbon dioxide and extinguished a flame using carbon dioxide. They managed to raise the water level in a upside down glass. They also managed to make a glove stand up on its own. They built a rocket from string, a straw and a balloon. Finally they made a volcano by mixing vinegar, food colouring and baking soda. While in the chemistry workshop the pupils completed experiments which explored different chemical reactions. |
