Leadership Roles
As part of the Active School Flag we have given many and varied leadership roles to the pupils. As mentioned above one student from every class has been chosen to be a part of the Active School Committee. The committee plays a very important role in the running of the Active School process in the school.
As well as that pupils from Sixth Class have been chosen to be our Playground Leaders. They play with the Junior and Senior Infants, helping them to keep active and teach them games they can play on the yard.
Three pupils from Fifth Class measured and organised where to place the Active School Walkway. They also kept track of the kilometres each class ran as part of our running challenge.
Two pupils from Sixth Class took responsibility and organised our Sports Day which was our whole school fun event as part of our Active Week. The whole of Fifth and Sixth Class took ownership and responsibility of the day itself ensuring the smooth running of the day. They ensured all the classes kept physically active and safe at all the different stations they had set up as part of the day.
We regularly get some pupils from Fifth and Sixth Class to ensure the P.E. press and equipment is stored safely and neatly.

Active School Noticeboard
Our Active School noticeboard is where you can find all the information about our Active School Flag. The results of our "What Club Are You In?" are displayed on the board along with the names of our Active School Committee along with our Playground Leaders. All the entries into our Active School Flag slogan and mascot competition are displayed as well as some pictures of different things we did as part of the Active School Flag.
Active School Slogan and Mascot Competition
To find our Active School Slogan we held a competition in the school. Children from Third Class to Sixth Class created and designed an Active School Slogan. While the children from First and Second Class created mascots for our Active School Flag. Once all the entries were in, the Active School Committee looked through all the entries and picked the winning slogan and mascot. There were so many amazing entries it was hard to pick just one. Eventually we managed to pick some winners. All the entries are now on display in the school.
The winning slogan by Muireann Gilbert was "Run, Jump, Skip, Play, Lets Exercise Everyday!". While the winning mascot was the Exercise Bunny by Darragh Coss.

What Club are you in?
As part of the process we conducted a survey called "What Club are you in?". The aim of this survey was to find out what physical activity opportunities are available in the local community.
The Active School Committee asked their class about what clubs they were in. They recorded the results and brought them results back to the Active School meeting. At the meeting we examined and evaluated the findings. We discussed them the findings of the survey. We were delighted that most pupils in the school take part in physical activity outside of school. With numerous pupils involved in more than one group. In total the children in the school are involved 17 different groups in the local area covering many different sports. We learned through this survey that there are so many different options for children to get involved in physical activity in the local area. Finally we created a table displaying the results for the whole school to see which is now on display on our Active School noticeboard. Please take a look at our results below.

Sporting Achievments
We are very proud of our sporting achievements here in the school. We have a display of photos of some sporting events and achievements in the school. We also like to acknowledge and celebrate the sporting achievements of the children outside of school also. Often the children go around and tell all the classes of their achievements and show everybody their medals and trophys they have won.
Laois Camogie Team
We are delighted that we had a visit from the All-Ireland winning Laois minor camogie team on Friday 17th May, The team included some past pupils of our school. The children all enjoyed meeting the team and looking at the trophy. The team even came and watched some of the matches taking place in our hurling league. The visit was a great inspiration for the children as to what you can achieve when you put in hard work.
Hurling and Camogie
We are delighted that Trevor and Diarmuid from the local GAA club Borris-in-Ossory Kilcotton GAA came to our school in the third term to teach hurling skills to the children. The sessions focused on developing and improving the hurling skills of all the children in the school. Trevor and Diarmuid even created a hurling league for each class for the end of term. The finals of which kicked off our Active Week. They both put in great work with the children and it is much appreciated. Take a look at some of the pictures below.
On Friday 29th November took part in a GAA session to build their leadership skills as well as teaching them skills and games which they can teach the younger classes as part of PE.

He taught the children some of the basic skills involved in Gaelic Football. It was a great experience for the children which they benefited greatly from.

There was a presentation at the end of the day of all the new skills which we learned. The children continued to skip on the yard and develop these skills even further. The skills were also used by class teachers in P.E. lessons.

We were delighted that this year through Laois Sports Partnership we got to try out new sports as well as developing new skills and interests. We got a taster of Golf, Rounders and Tug of War. Many of the rules and skills we learned especially in Rounders and Tug of War have been developed even further in P.E. lessons. The children all really enjoyed these sessions. Take a look below at us trying out Golf, Rounders and Tug of War.

On Tuesday 14th January pupils from Third and Fourth Class took part in a badminton competition in St. Mary's Hall in Portlaoise. The children competed against other schools from around Laois. All the players did very well reaching the semi-final and finals of their respective competitions, with some of the pupils even winning.

In the end the pupils played some matches. Everyone really enjoyed the day. Many thanks to all those involved who put in such great work.
Cumann na mBunscol
We take part in Cumann na mBunscol every year here in Killadooley N.S entering both a girls and boys team. For the very first we entered the Cumann na mBunscol football competition this year. The boys team even made the final which is an amazing achievement in their very first year. Our girls camogie team won the Roinn a 2 championship this year. The cup is currently on display in the school. Well done to all the teachers and pupils for all the hard work they put into it every year.
