The Pupils
As part of the Active School Flag we have given many and varied leadership roles to the pupils. As mentioned above one student from every class has been chosen to be a part of the Active School Committee. The committee plays a very important role in the running of the Active School process in the school.
As well as that pupils have been chosen to be our Playground Leaders. They play with the Junior and Senior Infants, helping them to keep active and teach them games they can play on the yard.
Sixth Class took responsibility and organised our Sports Day which was our whole school fun event as part of our Active Week. The whole of Fifth and Sixth Class took ownership and responsibility of the day itself ensuring the smooth running of the day. They ensured all the classes kept physically active and safe at all the different stations they had set up as part of the day.
We regularly get some pupils to ensure the P.E. press and equipment is stored safely and neatly.

Borris-Kilcotton GAA Club- GAA

We are very lucky here at Killadooley to have a wonderful relationship with the local GAA club- Borris Kilcotton GAA Club. Parents and family members are very involved with club and have been steadfast supporters of the children on all their matches. We are especially fortunate to have a wonderful trainer, Trevor Moore, to help us.
School Fitness Ireland- Gymnastics
We teamed up with School Fitness Ireland and took part in gymnastics lessons for 6 weeks with a focus on developing gymnastic skills such as balance, landing and movement within the gymnastics strand. The skills are developed and built upon as the pupils progress through the school.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the lessons and we realised that we may have some future gymnasts in our midst! |
Laois Sports Partnership- GAA
"Laois Sports Partnership is a leader in local sports development in Ireland and is one of the founding partnerships. Laois County Council identified the need for a Local Sports Partnership for Laois in 2001 and an inter-agency partnership was established to develop a submission to Sport Ireland, then the Irish Sports Council. The board of Laois Sports Partnership was established in May 2002 and has since met on a bimonthly basis to address the operational and strategic oversight of sport, recreation and physical activity in the county. The Partnership is supported in its work by a Board of Management with a broad spectrum of representative groups on the board."
